The first Russian soldier to be tried for a war crime in Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion has asked for "forgiveness" Thursday from the widow of a murdered Ukrainian civilian, an AFP journalist said during a court hearing in Kyiv.
"I know you will not be able to forgive me, but I ask you for forgiveness," said Vadim Shishimarin, 21, who pleaded guilty to killing a 62-year-old man in northeastern Ukraine on February 28, addressing his widow, Katerina Chelipova.
