The White House announced, the day before yesterday, that President Joe Biden decided to establish an air bridge, and to resort to a law dating back to the Cold War era, in an attempt to solve the infant formula shortage crisis currently afflicting the United States.

And the US presidency said in a statement that the Department of Defense “will use its contracts with commercial airlines, as it did during the first months of the (Covid-19) pandemic, to transport products from factories abroad,” in accordance with American safety standards.

She added that this air bridge, which was called "Operation Flying Baby Milk", will allow for the acceleration of the import and distribution of infant formula, and will provide support to the manufacturers of this basic product, who continue to increase their production.

And the White House explained in its statement that Biden also decided to use the "Defense Production Act", which was approved in the Cold War era, noting that the administration will require, under this law, that producers of ingredients necessary for the production of infant formula, give priority in delivering orders to manufacturers of this substance. .

The statement pointed out that "requiring companies to prioritize and allocate (their resources) to the production of the main components of infant formula will facilitate increased production and speed up supply chains."

The United States is witnessing a rare shortage of infant formula, in a crisis that worries millions of parents across the country.

This crisis erupted due to supply problems and a shortage of labor as a result of the “Covid-19” pandemic, but it soon worsened in February, after the closure of a factory belonging to the “Abbott” group in Michigan, and the withdrawal of the company’s products, due to the suspicion that it caused the death of two infants. .

This crisis has become a source of political headache for the Democratic President's administration, whose critics blamed it for its delay in moving to solve the problem.
