A gendarme was found guilty of manslaughter by the judicial court of Versailles (Yvelines) on Tuesday.

He was in charge of the surveillance of a man who died while in police custody at the La-Queue-les-Yvelines police station in January 2014, indicates

The victim was deputy mayor of Villiers-le-Mahieu (Yvelines).

The sergeant received a six-month suspended prison sentence.

Justice considered that he should not have left the premises and left the chosen one unattended in a cell where the temperature was below 10°C.

The detainee had died because of the cold and his high blood alcohol level.

State found responsible

The court however accepted the request for non-registration in the criminal record of the soldier who exercises today in the south of France.

Relatives of the victim challenged this decision.

Justice has also recognized the responsibility of the State.

The family said they hope no appeal will be filed.
