The ban on nuclear weapons should apply to all forms of introduction of nuclear weapons on Swedish territory - even during, for example, naval visits or when allies travel through Swedish waters and airspace, the Green Party (MP) proposes.

- We want the Riksdag to take a position on these requirements, says Stenevi.

On Wednesday, the MP requests to raise a special motion in the Riksdag with several demands before Sweden's accession negotiations with NATO.

Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson (S) has already announced that Sweden, just like Norway and Denmark, will clearly declare that we do not want either nuclear weapons or permanent NATO bases on Swedish territory.

But that is not enough, according to Stenevi.

- When referring to Denmark and Norway, the exceptions are oral agreements, where one respects Denmark's and Norway's desire not to have nuclear weapons.

Should not be legitimized

National legislation is needed in case NATO later requires Member States to accept nuclear weapons, says Stenevi.

- That legislation applies to NATO's statutes.

She points out that similar legislation has already existed in Finland for a long time.

The MP also wants Sweden not to participate in NATO's special committee for nuclear weapons.

- We think that Sweden should continue to work for disarmament and the abolition of nuclear weapons.

To then at the same time sit and participate in a group that will direct nuclear weapons towards specific targets will rather be to legitimize the use.

Turkey makes demands

The MP also wants Sweden to pursue the principle of "no first use" within the defense alliance, which means that nuclear weapons may never be used if a nuclear power is not first attacked by nuclear weapons.

In addition, the MP writes in the motion that Sweden should be a driving force to increase respect for democratic values within NATO and for the alliance to introduce a "democracy requirement".

- Here, we have only the last 24 hours clearly demonstrated how Turkey makes demands and expects how Sweden should adapt its foreign policy based on what suits the Turkish regime and not based on what Sweden independently assesses what is right and proper, says Stenevi.

Several MP members request to be allowed to raise the motion with reference to the Riksdag's rules on events of greater importance, which means that the motion can be processed despite the Riksdag's motion period having expired.

- I assume that it will be considered by the Riksdag, and that it is done immediately, says Stenevi.
