It is the newspaper Dagens samhälle, with a focus on monitoring municipalities 'and regions' work in various issues, which annually awards the Super Municipality of the Year award.

In order to be nominated for Super Municipality of the Year, the municipalities are assessed in 18 different categories.

It is in the category "Small town and rural municipalities" that Kalmar is nominated together with Varberg and Lidköping.

Won 2021

The motivation when Kalmar took home the title Super Municipality of the Year 2021 was that it has succeeded in working attractively to increase its population, that it has strong school results, that it protects its large and populous countryside, and that equality between women and men among municipalities and regions employees showed an unusually small predominance of men.

In this year's motivation for the nomination, Kalmar once again stands out mainly for its good results in school and a good level of gender equality.

In addition, several steps have been taken forward around climate and the environment.

In the economy category, however, Kalmar is not as high, where the summary reads "

To raise capital for new investments, the municipality, like many others, has done business with Samhällsbyggnadsbolaget, which at the beginning of the year bought the municipal real estate company for almost SEK 2.7 billion.

"

On 5 July, during Almedalen Week, Dagens Sammälle presents the results of this year's survey and then Kalmar can once again take home the title of Super Municipality of the Year.
