Journalist Sener: By joining Sweden and Finland to NATO, the US seeks to weaken Russia

They expect to expand the sphere of influence of NATO and weaken Russia by drawing it into the conflict.

Therefore, after Ukraine, they posted a map of Finland and Sweden.

They want two countries that have so far been known for their neutrality in the international arena to become members of a military alliance, ”Shener said.

According to him, by doing so, Washington seeks to strengthen its position as a hegemon on the world stage. 

Sener also noted Turkey's role in preventing Sweden and Finland from joining NATO.

“If Turkey says “no” to the membership of the two countries in NATO and imposes a veto, it will take an important step for the whole world, and above all for Sweden and Finland themselves,” he explained.

Sener concluded that blocking their accession to the alliance would mean a disruption to the plans of the United States, seeking to "ignite a big conflict, including by provoking Russia."

Earlier, the ambassadors of Sweden and Finland handed over to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg applications for NATO membership.

Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey cannot say yes to Finland and Sweden's NATO membership.

Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper, commented on the plans of Sweden and Finland to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
