Seville has never experienced such a rush of football fans: only 40,000 spectators can watch the Europa League final (9 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the Europa League and on RTL) between Eintracht Frankfurt and Glasgow Rangers in the stadium.

Of course, significantly more supporters of the two clubs are present in the city in Andalusia this Wednesday.

It is estimated that up to 150,000 fans plunge the city into football fever.

After many Eintracht fans had already set off on the most winding paths towards Spain in the past few days, the last fans are flying to Seville this Wednesday with the day flights organized by the club.

As early as 5 a.m., Frankfurt Airport is flooded with Eintracht fans all in white.

39 special flights take off from here during the day.

The atmosphere is relaxed, the lines are long and hopes are high that Eintracht will win the European Cup final.

"Europacup" is sung by a small group of fans in Terminal 2, and it can be heard throughout the hall.

calm before the storm

In the meantime, thousands of Adler fans in Seville are sleeping off the intoxication of a long Andalusian night.

A relaxed atmosphere prevailed in the streets and squares of Seville, fans of both camps mostly met each other with respect and only measured their strength by singing, as our photographer Ilkay Karakurt observed.

Accordingly, there were fraternization scenes, the opposing fans were in each other's arms.

So it still applied: Separate in the colors, united in the anticipation.

The Rangers colors then dominate the streets on Wednesday morning.

The Scots sit in the bars and cafés, while the Frankfurters tend to gather at their fan meeting point.

Each club has been assigned such a place in the city at a great distance from each other, where the camps can get in the mood for the game.

At 12:00 p.m. the calm before the storm reigns at the fan meeting point.

Restaurateurs clear tables before the big crowd is expected.

"We love unity," boomed the big speakers on the stage.

It's hot, but the trees cast a lot of shadows.

"I hope that we will overrun them," says Jörg, and toasts the harmony with his friends with the first freshly tapped beer.

Then he pulls a little sunscreen out of the bag and rubs it on himself.

The first buses from the airport arrive, fan clubs close souvenir photos.

Attack on Rangers fans

However, there were reports that German fans attacked a group of Scots.

Five Eintracht Frankfurt fans were arrested.

According to the police, they were part of a group of 200 German supporters who are said to have thrown flares, tables and bottles at Civil Guard officials near the cathedral in the center of southern Spain on Wednesday night.

The police chief in charge, Juan Carlos Castro, had already warned of "serious problems" shortly before these first riots on Tuesday, because there were too many people in the city with too much alcohol.
