“I warmly welcome and strongly support the historic bids of Finland and Sweden to join NATO,” Biden said in a statement on the White House website.
According to him, both countries are long-term partners of the alliance.
He added that the US will continue to maintain a strong presence in the Baltic Sea region.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance intends to ensure that the issues of including Sweden and Finland in the alliance are resolved as soon as possible.
