It was at 01.30 that the police received a call from a taxi driver.
He said he had been beaten by two men.
They had then stolen his car.
The taxi could then be located in a ditch on a small county road a couple of miles north of Uppsala.
When the police arrived at the car, two drunk men in their 25s were sitting in it.
They were arrested on suspicion of robbery.
The driver is also suspected of drunk driving.
The taxi driver was not seriously injured by the assault.
