On Saturday 14 June last year, a police car ran a red light and collided with a private motorist at the intersection of Norra Ringvägen and Vasagatan in Västerås.

In the car sat a family with two children.

One of the children in the back seat broke his arm in the accident.

Did not take sufficient account of safety

Västmanland District Court now sentences the police officer to a daily fine for causing bodily injury and violation of the Traffic Ordinance.

A police car may drive at a red light in an emergency, but the driver must then be extra careful.

The district court believes that the police in question drove too fast and did not take sufficient account of the safety of others in this case.
