Iraq suspends work hours in schools and universities due to the dust wave

Today, Iraq announced the suspension of official working hours and the postponement of exams in various academic and university levels, for the second day in a row, against the backdrop of bad weather conditions and the country's exposure to a heavy wave of dust.

Data from the Ministries of Education and Higher Education said that it was decided to suspend the official working hours for this day and to postpone the performance of the final exams for the current study year in various academic and university levels against the background of bad weather conditions, and later dates will be set to complete the smooth flow of exams.

On the other hand, Iraqi airports resumed their activities, as internal and external flights were conducted, as well as the return of loading and unloading operations in the ports in the south of the country, after the dust storms subsided.

And the Iraqi Ministry of Health announced that four thousand Iraqis were exposed to cases of suffocation and respiratory problems against the background of the rising dust in the country.

And the Meteorological Authority in Iraq announced that expectations indicate that the country will continue to be exposed to active winds in most of the country, causing dust to rise for this day.

During the months of last April and this May, Iraq was exposed to eight heavy dust waves, the most violent in decades, in light of a semi-dry state that the country's water bodies are exposed to due to the decline in rainfall in the winter and the significant rise in temperatures in the summer, and the fact that both Iran and Turkey reduced Iraq's share of water in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
