Eight people suspected of having transported cocaine from Guyana by ingesting eggs, to resell it in Le Mans, have been indicted and remanded in custody, the city prosecutor's office announced on Tuesday.

The operation, which mobilized 150 gendarmes, is the second of this type carried out in two months in several sectors of Le Mans "within the Guyanese and Surinamese communities, as well as in Guyana", according to the prosecution.

The Sablons district, south-east of Le Mans, where a "family clan" suspected of being involved in this traffic resides is particularly concerned.

Fourteen people were arrested simultaneously and eight were referred, including one “on warrant to bring from Guyana, indicted and placed in pre-trial detention at the end of the week and this weekend”, indicates the prosecution.

The first operation, organized on March 18, also led to eight indictments, including a local elected representative from Saint-Laurent du Maroni.

The investigation started in the summer of 2021 following information collected by the research section of the Angers gendarmerie, the latter suspecting "the existence of cocaine trafficking in the form of eggs" ingested by travelers between Guyana and Le Mans.
