After Rennes, the town hall of Grenoble authorized Monday the wearing of the burkini in the municipal swimming pools.

A very controversial decision, because the opposition denounces a submission to "political Islam" pushed by the association Alliance Citoyenne.

Several questions arise about this association.

It's done.

As of June 1, the wearing of the burkini will be authorized in the swimming pools of the city of Grenoble.

This reform had been pushed for almost three years by Citizen Alliance, an association much criticized by the opposition, in particular because of its so-called aggressive methods: its members forced the entrance to municipal swimming pools several times to bathe in burkini.

Aggressive practices

The association claims "the first swimming pool actions against the intolerant regulations of municipal swimming pools, depriving many Muslim women of access to these public services".

Its members have also created a football team, the Hijabeuses, to demand the authorization of the veil in official competitions.

But its funding raises questions.

The Association, which would have influence on the mayor of Grenoble Éric Piolle (EELV), receives thousands of euros from the town hall of Grenoble, which refuses to reveal the precise amount, and would also receive 80,000 euros from the controversial billionaire George Soros.

In 2021, Gérald Darmanin had asked the European Commission to cancel its subsidy of 60,000 euros to the association, because according to the Minister of the Interior, it undermines the values of France, but without result.

According to the newspaper

Le Parisien

, this association which claims to be feminist and anti-Islamophobia, would organize a registration of Grenoble residents.

They would list the detail of their beliefs, their origin or even their state of health for electoral purposes.
