BAE Systems Bofors AB in Karlskoga belongs to Europe's largest defense equipment group with almost 90,000 employees in 40 countries worldwide, with headquarters in the United Kingdom.

In Karlskoga, marine and mobile artillery pieces are manufactured, among other things.

- We are about 500 employees including consultants, and have grown.

In the last four or five years, a change has taken place, so we are now about half new employees.

This is partly due to retirements but also because we needed new skills, says Katarina Tolgfors, communicator at BAE Systems Bofors AB, who is also a moderate regional politician in Örebro County.

Changed security mode

The company does not see that a Swedish entry into NATO would have any immediate effect, as delivered systems have long been adapted to the defense alliance's standard.

On the other hand, the war in Ukraine and the prevailing security situation affect the market for the defense industry in Europe, which in the long run can affect the company's business.

- A reasonable conclusion is that we see that more countries are upgrading and increasing their defense budgets.

It is of course our job to see an opportunity in the future to take more contracts and orders.
