• Monday morning, the man suspected of murdering his ex-girlfriend called the gendarmes and the mother of the victim to warn them that he had committed violence against his ex.

  • Convicted of rape in 2008 and released in 2018, he has since multiplied stays in prison, in particular for having defied the ban on contacting his ex.

  • A month before his last release from prison, the victim had refused the establishment of an anti-reconciliation bracelet.

A 37-year-old woman was killed by several stab wounds on Monday at her home in Béziers.

Her ex-partner called the victim's mother and the gendarmes to warn them that he had committed violence against his ex-partner.

He had two children with her, aged 12 and 17.

The police then went to the scene where they found the body of the victim.

"It results from the first investigations, and in particular from video surveillance, that the ex-partner of the victim (...) had presented himself at the victim's home around eight o'clock in the morning and that he had come out in the middle of the morning " , details the public prosecutor of Béziers, Raphaël Balland.

He was finally arrested Monday around 8 p.m., in Marseillette, in Aude.

Heavy criminal record

The respondent had a long and heavy criminal record, including two convictions in 2008 for rape of 8 years in prison and 12 years in prison after periods of pre-trial detention.

After having served these two sentences, partly combined with each other, he was released from detention in July 2018.

On September 25, 2020, he was again sentenced in immediate appearance by the Béziers Criminal Court for traffic offenses and death threats against his ex-companion, to 3 years' imprisonment, including 18 months suspended probation including the prohibition to come into contact with the victim.

After serving the firm part of his sentence, he was released again on September 1, 2021 and followed as part of his probationary reprieve.

A final release on March 21

Following a report on November 3, 2021 by agents of the Hérault integration and probation service, the Béziers public prosecutor's office ordered the same day that he be placed in police custody at the Béziers police station.

He had returned to live in the victim's home and he had made new threats against him.

He had been presented to the sentencing judge who had revoked his probationary suspension for six months by again ordering his immediate imprisonment.

Released on March 21, 2022, he was again monitored by the sentence enforcement judge and the integration and probation service, who reminded him of the maintenance of his ban on entering into a relationship with the victim.

"In addition, before the release of this individual, the sentence enforcement judge had received the victim on February 22 to offer him the installation of an anti-reconciliation bracelet, which she had refused", says the public prosecutor.

Placed in police custody, the accused will be heard at the Béziers police station in charge of the investigation, with a view to the opening of a judicial investigation by the Béziers prosecutor's office on the count of murder by an ex-partner.

A crime punishable by life imprisonment.
