The Minister of Finance, who participated in the party leader hearing instead of S leader Magdalena Andersson, says that gang crime and segregation are the government's most prioritized issue.

Damberg believes that some of the problems in vulnerable areas are based on the lack of state presence, including police.

- We are implementing a very strong expansion of the police now.

We will have 10,000 more police employees and tighten a long list of penalties for accessing the gang crime that plagues Sweden.

We are also giving the police and other law enforcement agencies completely new tools to access and prosecute this type of criminal - and we will do more.

Measures to break segregation

Mikael Damberg also highlights the role of parents in the long-term work against segregation.

Parents must work and know the Swedish language to be integrated into society and at the same time act as a role model for their children, according to the minister.

Children and young people must also manage school so that they do not end up in the hands of the criminal gangs.

- I think the whole debate about gang crime has been missing - the discussion about not only giving the police more resources and sharpening the penalties, but how we make sure to break new recruitment.
