May 15th is the National Day of Helping the Disabled. Xinhua News Agency's "Learning in Progress" will share with you the heartwarming stories of the General Secretary and the disabled group.

Around us, there are more or less such a group of people: they are either blind and rely on canes to explore the way; or lose both legs and use wheelchairs to move; …The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that approximately 1 billion people worldwide are disabled.

In China, there are more than 85 million disabled persons of various types.

Behind every number is a fresh life with tenacious life, love and tears.

Xi Jinping once pointed out that the disabled are a group with special difficulties and need special care and attention.

A few short stories can very well show that he has a "special love" for this group.

"Send charcoal in the snow" for Lin Kongxiang

In the 1990s, there was a retired worker named Lin Kongxiang in Cangshan District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province.

In a family of four, three persons with disabilities account for it.

The whole family lives on his meager monthly pension.

After learning about Lin Kongxiang's situation, Xi Jinping, who was the secretary of the Fuzhou Municipal Party Committee at the time, said to the district leaders: "The government should pay special attention to people who have special difficulties like this, and give more help to these people." So the district government came forward to help Lin Kongxiang rent it. A commercial store let him run a grocery store, and the civil affairs department gave him a relief fund of 1,000 yuan.

In this way, Lin Kongxiang's family got better with half support and half labor.

During his work in Fuzhou, Xi Jinping presided over a series of policies to assist the disabled, such as policies to encourage enterprises to absorb disabled persons, to coordinate the treatment of cataracts, subsidies for prosthetic limbs for the physically disabled, and the rehabilitation of the deaf-mute. What should the government do? How much money and other specific measures have been planned in detail.

Learn dumb language with little Yani

After the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, General Secretary Xi Jinping's "special love" for the disabled group remains as always.

In January 2014, in the prairie of Inner Mongolia, a piece of silver was wrapped.

Xi Jinping braved the severe cold to come to the Children's Welfare Institute in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, to visit the children here.

This orphanage is a welfare institution built by the local government that integrates maintenance, treatment, rehabilitation, education and resettlement. At that time, there were more than 200 orphans and disabled children.

Xi Jinping had a cordial conversation with the children.

He encouraged Wang Yani, a deaf-mute girl, and Yan Zhijing, a college student who was "going home" during the holidays, to study hard and achieve academic success.

Little Yani bent her thumb to Xi Jinping and said "thank you" in dumb language.

Xi Jinping followed suit: "Extending the thumb is 'good', and bending it is 'thank you'." He smiled like a child.

In the rehearsal room, Xi Jinping crouched down and hugged a child lovingly.

"Grateful heart, thank you for having you..." The children sang "Grateful Heart" while making gestures.

These heartwarming images were recorded by a Xinhua reporter with a camera.

The reporter recalled that Xi Jinping was particularly concerned about the disabled group, and there were many moving photos in his camera.

Praise Yang Yufang and his wife for "interpreting the value and meaning of life with actions"

In 2016, Xi Jinping came to the Paraplegic Sanatorium in Tangshan City.

In the convalescent ward, Xi Jinping had a cordial conversation with Yang Yufang, Gao Zhihong and his wife.

In 1976, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in Tangshan, and Tangshan was razed to the ground in an instant.

Yang Yufang and Gao Zhihong were paraplegic due to injuries at the epicenter.

In 1981, they lived in a paraplegic sanatorium in Tangshan City, where they met, fell in love, and tied the knot.

Yang Yufang presented his novels and poetry collections to Xi Jinping.

The couple also recited emotionally a poem about the PLA's heroic relief efforts during the Tangshan earthquake.

Xi Jinping praised them for their optimism, progress, and touching deeds, who explained the value and meaning of life with their actions.

There are many more such stories.

Xi Jinping's concern for the disabled group is always meticulous and meticulous.

In the battle against poverty, Xi Jinping especially warned that "there should be no less disabled people"; when fighting against the new crown pneumonia epidemic, he emphasized that special groups such as the lonely elderly, children in difficulties, extremely poor people, and disabled people who are isolated at home due to epidemic prevention and control , to provide necessary help in a timely manner; during the special investigation of the preparations for the Beijing Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics in early 2022, Xi Jinping specially inspected the model rooms for disabled athletes. Demand, add relevant barrier-free facilities...

Xi Jinping has vividly called "the cause of the disabled" as "the cause of spring".

Spring symbolizes warmth and heralds hope.

Our country strives to bring spring-like warmth to the disabled.
