The Iranian news agency Isna reported earlier in May that Djalali would be executed by May 21.

The researcher was sentenced to death in 2017, accused of spying on behalf of Israel.

They (Djalali's defenders) have asked for the execution to take place at another time, said spokeswoman Saeed Khatibzadeh at a press conference.

- It is under consideration.

The judiciary will of course take a closer look at the matter.

Greps 2016

49-year-old Ahmadreza Djalali, who defended his dissertation in emergency medicine at Karolinska Institutet in 2012, was arrested by the Iranian intelligence service in April 2016, when he was in the country at the invitation of an Iranian university.

His case has aroused great interest among human rights organizations and medical associations.

Djalali's health condition has been described as serious, with medical problems and severe weight loss.

Has been postponed

The execution of his sentence has also been postponed several times before.

Most recently, his execution was decided by the end of 2020, but shortly afterwards it was announced that it had been postponed.

The information that Djalali was to be executed before May 21 came at the same time as the trial against Hamid Noury ended in Stockholm District Court.

Noury is suspected of a serious violation of international law and several murders in connection with mass executions in Iran in 1988.

The message was probably a reaction to the war crimes trial and a way to put pressure on the West in Iran's eyes, according to Iranian expert Rouzbeh Parsi.

The Iranian-born Djalali has lived in Sweden since 2009 and has Swedish citizenship.

In Sweden there is his wife and two children.
