- It is clear that it is difficult to say in advance how it will be, but with a membership we can expect that it will become more common for Swedish units to practice together with others, says Douglas Brommesson, professor of political science with defense , security and foreign policy as main areas, at Linnaeus University in Växjö.

What is it about for presence?

- We will see foreign ships in our ports, for example.

We will also see more intensive training patterns when it comes to aviation.

Our air force must be able to act more integrated and in sync with NATO aircraft.

In the clip, Douglas Brommesson also answers whether it could be nuclear-armed ships.

More regiments when investing in defense

In NATO, there is a goal that all member states should spend two percent of GDP on defense.

As early as March, the government announced that it wanted to invest heavily in defense, and that military spending would amount to two percent of GDP.

- We are now responsible for an expansion of the defense around the country and it will be felt, says Douglas Brommesson.

Öland politicians have in a letter to the Minister of Defense Peter Hultqvist (S) asked the question why the defense on Öland is not upgraded, when the government spends billions on Gotland and Bornholm.

But that a new regiment would be built on Öland is not seen as probable, even if Professor Douglas Brommesson does not want to rule anything out in this situation.

- I think that they will establish themselves in places where the state already has access to practice fields, barracks and other things.

It is quite complicated to get hold of as large training fields as required and to build completely new regiments, but there are no concrete plans yet, he says.
