The Northern Lights health center runs healthcare in eastern Kiruna municipality and now service points have been started in Saivomuotka, Lannavaara, Masugnsbyn and Svappavaara.

The idea with the service points is that they are staffed one day every two weeks with staff who can perform simpler medical care, for example, they must take blood pressure and blood tests and make simple wound dressings.

The patients were absent

The background to the change is complaints from patients.

For some patients who travel by bus to the health center, a simple sampling of ten minutes has meant that a whole day has been taken up.

- There are long distances and many find it difficult to get to the health center.

Many patients are absent because of this and do not come to an important sampling, says Stina Lundberg, operations manager at the Northern Lights health center.

Good for patients and the environment

She sees many advantages in healthcare staff going out to the patients in the villages that are far away from the health center.

- Above all, it is beneficial for patients.

It will be both easier and cheaper for them, but it is also good from an environmental point of view, says Stina Lundberg.

In the clip, Stina Lundberg talks about further development opportunities when healthcare staff go out to patients.
