The wagon of a freight train, which was carrying potash, has derailed this afternoon at the entrance of the Sant Boi de Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat station, hitting the cabin of another passenger train that was leaving the place at that time.

The train driver has died while the emergency and health services have moved to attend to and evacuate the hundred passengers who were inside.

There are 85 injured, including two less serious and 83 minor.

Civil Protection of the Generalitat has activated this Monday in the alert phase the railway emergency plan of Catalonia (Ferrocat) for this incident that affected a passenger train on the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) Llobregat-Anoia line.

Firefighters from the Generalitat are working to evacuate passengers and secure the catenary in the section between Sant Boi and Molí Nou.

Ferrocarrils technical teams investigate the causes of the accident.

According to health sources, the 85 injured passengers have been treated for fractures, the most serious, and bruises.

Some of them have been taken to the Sant Boi and Bellvitge hospitals for treatment.

Numerous police and emergency services have also traveled to the scene of the incident, and authorities are expected to attend, both from the Generalitat and from nearby municipalities.

FGC indicates that the train service runs from Pl. Espanya station to Cornellà Riera, and from Colònia Güell station to Igualada and Manresa.

For the affected section, alternative passage by road is managed.
