Already last autumn, work began in three other places.

In the vicinity of Köping, graves were found where, in addition to human remains, many objects related to horses could be found.

It may indicate a close relationship with the animals in some higher classes.

Two periods

The excavation site at Häljeby is majestically located on a cliff above the E18.

There, archaeologists already see that humans have been for at least two distinct periods: the first around year zero, that is, the older Iron Age.

The second period where they see that people have been on the site is during the Late Iron Age, around 600 AD.

- In the older Iron Age tombs there are mainly burnt bones, then during the migration period / Vendel period there are more objects: it can be pearls, ceramics and other things, says Katarina Appelgren project manager for the excavations along the E18.
