In a swimming pool at the Andrézieux-Bouthéon aquatic center in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, eight people, including seven schoolchildren, were victims of poisoning of unknown origin on Monday.

The victims, suffering from vomiting, headaches and sore throats, were rushed to the hospital in Saint-Prietz en Harez.

Eight people, including seven college students, were hospitalized on Monday after poisoning of undetermined origin in an aquatic center in Andrézieux-Bouthéon, in the Loire department, we learned from the firefighters and the prefecture.

The people cared for suffered from vomiting, headaches and sore throats.

Among them are seven students from two 6th grade classes at the Jacques Prévert college in Andrézieux-Bouthéon, who bathed Monday morning in the city's Nautiform pools, managed by the metropolis of Saint-Etienne. 

The cause of the incident remains unknown.

“Fifty-four people were evacuated, including 46 children who were seen individually by the firefighters and the Samu”, declared Judicaële Ruby, chief of staff of the Loire prefecture.

“Among them, eight people, including seven college students, were taken to the North Hospital of Saint-Priest-en-Jarez (Loire) or to the Forez hospital center in Montbrison (Loire) in an emergency,” said -she further detailed during a press briefing which followed the intervention of around fifty firefighters and members of the Samu, as well as around fifteen gendarmes.

"The first analyzes came back negative, other research is underway to determine the origin of this incident. In the meantime, the establishment remains closed", still indicates the prefecture, adding that the parquet floor of Saint-Etienne had opened investigation for endangering the lives of others.
