DRC: Joseph Kabila's PPRD is getting ready for the 2023 elections

The PPRD, the political party of the former head of state, is preparing its next congress.
It is Joseph Kabila himself who is in charge.
On Saturday, May 14, he chaired a preparatory meeting for the congress, initially planned for this month of May, but which will finally be held next June.

It is during this congress that the party will define the main guidelines for the next elections.
Among the themes that could be addressed, there is the question of possible alliances.
Recently, the PPRD joined forces with the so-called patriotic bloc, which notably brings together citizens' organisations, secular movements and parties such as Martin Fayulu's Ecide, which are protesting to obtain more consensus around the electoral reforms under discussion in parliament.
Candidacy of Joseph Kabila for the presidential election?
It will also be a question during the congress of discussing the issue of candidacies.
Recently, some relatives of the former president had mentioned the possibility of his presidential candidacy.
Joseph Kabila himself has never spoken on the issue, but his entourage insists and affirms that he has not yet retired from politics.
It is also possible to see the members of the party office being replaced during this congress in view of the political issues of the day.
In the meantime, an
ad hoc
commission has been created to prepare the setting up of a preparatory committee for the congress.
It is made up of five members of the political bureau of the PPRD, members who are also part of the major current figures of the party.
