He stated this in an interview with the Italian Radio24.

“I think an agreement will be reached.

We must admit that Hungary is almost completely dependent on Russia for gas and oil, and therefore we must find alternatives for them too.

We must show solidarity at the European level.

We are ready, today the Foreign Ministers will discuss this at the Council, and I hope that we can find a solution in the coming days,” Timmermans said.

He added that countries that have difficulties are invited to give more time. 

The deputy head of the European Commission also said that paying for Russian gas in rubles is “a clear violation of sanctions.”

Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg also expressed confidence that the sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia could be agreed upon in the coming days.
