The question was whether the new nursing home Hemstranden should be run on a contract basis.

Alternative "Yes" received 395 votes (18.59 percent) and alternative "No" received 1,673 votes (78.73 percent).

Of the 7,653 eligible voters in the municipality, 2,125 (28 percent) participated in the referendum.

- Referendums usually have a low turnout, but this was lower than I had expected, says municipal councilor Sven Tornberg (C).

The final result will be presented on 18 May.

Then the matter will come up to the politicians in the council in June.

Whether the referendum will have any impact in a future decision is unclear.

- We can put the result in the municipal cookie jar, shake come and see what falls out, says Sven Tornberg.
