Burkina Faso: a series of attacks kills around 40 people in one weekend

A series of attacks targeted the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland, the auxiliaries of the armed forces and civilians at the end of the week.

Around 40 people were killed in the Sahel and eastern regions of Burkina Faso.

It was the Sahel region that recorded the deadliest attack.

It targeted the populations of the commune of Guessel, south-west of Essakane.

Eight volunteers for the defense of the party,

the civilian auxiliaries of the armed forces

, and about twenty inhabitants were killed by armed men.

Another attack targeted Homeland Defense Volunteers in Salmossi, on a road leading to Markoye.

Five auxiliaries and one civilian were killed.

In the Eastern region, a convoy of civilians, escorted by volunteers, was targeted by armed men.

These civilians were going to the locality of Namouyouri to look for food, according to survivors.

The populations are no longer supplied and food is lacking, explains a security source.

The inhabitants went to pick mangoes in an orchard in the village of Namouyuri located 11 kilometers from Tambarga to feed themselves

The injured were admitted for treatment at the regional hospital center of Fada N'Gourma.

According to a security source, this series is a form of pressure against the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, who have returned to service alongside the armed forces after a period of uncertainty.
