A Spanish restaurant has been at the center of controversy after selling a glass of tap water for 4,000 won.

At local restaurants, you usually have to order water to drink, but you can choose between bottled water or tap water.

Guest Maria, along with two of her friends, opted for tap water, and when she looked at the receipt, she paid 3 Euros per glass.

3 euros is about 4,000 Korean won.

She drank 3 glasses of tap water and paid 12,000 won, but Maria and her party posted the receipt on SNS and asked, "Is this a fair price?"

The controversy intensified as the restaurant countered that "receiving water, serving it, and cleaning the cups afterwards is all labor that costs money," and eventually the local consumer protection agency came forward.

The Protection Agency announced that the law was recently revised and that "tap water is free in all restaurants and cafes from the 8th of last month."

Netizens responded, "Before that, a cup of tap water was the price of coffee. There must have been a lot of people with a sore throat~" and "

Thank you again to Korean restaurants that provide water purifiers!"
