On Friday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke about Finland and Sweden's possible wishes for NATO membership.

In connection with this, he said, among other things, that Scandinavian countries are a guest house for terrorist organizations.

Many are now wondering whether Turkey will really prevent enlargement or what demands the president may place on the table in exchange for an approval, say sources to the Norwegian Verdens Gang.

Foreign Minister Ann Linde responded to Erdogan's statement on Friday:

- We have a very good and constructive relationship and they have not presented anything like this to us, she says to SVT News.

White House: To clarify Turkey's position

The Biden administration is working to clarify Turkey's position regarding Finland and Sweden's ambitions for possible membership, reports Reuters and refers to a statement by the White House press secretary Jen Psaki.

- There is broad support from NATO countries regarding Finland's and Sweden's interest in a membership, says Jen Psaki.

According to the Pentagon, Turkey's position in NATO has not changed due to the statement.
