Finland can submit its NATO application on Wednesday

- From our side, it will be the NATO ambassador in Brussels who will do it physically, probably on Wednesday.

Then if the negotiations start with NATO, it will be handled by a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Defense, Haavisto tells the newspaper.

Haavisto says that Finland is prepared for all kinds of possible answers from Russia.

- We have a preparation for traditional military threats, violations of the airspace and at sea, even violations of our land border.

This week's process

On Saturday, the Finnish Social Democrats SDP decided to apply for membership in the Defense Alliance.

But already on Thursday, the Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin and President Sauli Niinistö announced that they are behind a Finnish membership application.
