Palestinian Justice Minister Muhammad al-Shalaldeh announced that the file of the assassination of colleague Shirin Abu Aqleh, shot by the Israeli occupation forces, will be referred to the International Criminal Court as soon as it is completed as soon as possible, while President Mahmoud Abbas reiterated his refusal to participate in any investigation into the crime.

Shalaldeh said in an interview with Al-Jazeera that the law of the jungle will prevail if Israel is not held accountable as a rogue state, stressing that there must be a legal reference, whether from the Security Council or the General Assembly or others.

He declared that it is necessary to form an investigation committee, whether or not Israel admitted its crime, explaining that there is no immunity for anyone before the International Criminal Court, and "we have the right to refer the accused to it."

Al-Shalaldeh explained that the projectile that was fired at Shireen came from the Israeli occupation soldiers, and that the details will be issued soon.

Weapon type

"I can now talk about the type of weapon from which the projectile was fired, but we have to wait a bit," he added.

The minister held Israel fully criminally responsible for this crime, and said, "We are with any international investigation committee, and mechanisms for prosecution and accountability must be found."

The Palestinian official denied the existence of pressure on the authority, stressing that the delay in announcing the type of weapon is related to the investigation.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas reiterated the Palestinian Authority's rejection of Israel's participation in the investigations into the assassination of our colleague Shireen Abu Akleh.

Abbas said that the Palestinian side will not allow in any way that Israel is a partner in the investigation into the circumstances of the martyrdom of Shireen Abu Akleh.

except for Israel

For his part, Hussein al-Sheikh, a member of the Executive Committee of the Liberation Organization, expressed the Palestinian side's openness to any international participation in the investigation into the circumstances of the martyrdom of Shireen Abu Akleh, with the exception of Israel.

The Sheikh stressed that the Palestinian National Authority refused and will continue to refuse to give Israel the bullet that killed Abu Aqila.

The Palestinian Public Prosecution said that a preliminary investigation confirmed that the only source of fire at the time of Shirin's injury was the occupation forces.

In a statement, the Palestinian Public Prosecution added that the direct cause of Shirin Abu Aqleh's death was a brain injury as a result of a high-speed projectile.

The Public Prosecution also confirmed the continuation of investigation procedures into the heinous crime committed by the occupation forces.

Security Council

On Friday, the UN Security Council adopted a press statement that the United States had distributed to member states, expressing its strong condemnation of the killing of fellow Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

The press release called for an immediate, thorough and transparent investigation into the killing of Shireen Abu Aqleh, and stressed the need to ensure accountability and the protection of journalists as civilians.

In Berlin, German Foreign Minister Annalina Birbock called for a transparent investigation into the killing of our colleague Sherine and the attack on her funeral and mourners.

Birbock said that she felt bitterness and deep resentment because Shireen Abu Aqleh had the right to be buried in peace and with dignity.

On the other hand, the Israeli Channel 12 said that the Chief of Staff of the Israeli army, Aviv Kohavi, listened to internal reports that showed that the Israeli army shot Shirin Abu Aqila, and this is highly likely.

The Israeli channel added that two sources who attended the army chief of staff's meeting confirmed to it information regarding the reports Kohavi heard regarding the Israeli army's responsibility for the killing of Shirin Abu Aqleh.

According to the channel, Kohavi asked to wait in publishing about the possibility of his soldiers shooting a colleague, Shirin Abu Aqleh, and requested a re-enactment of what happened in the presence of experts.

The IDF Chief of Staff also admitted in the meeting that the possibility of an Israeli soldier killing Shirin Abu Akleh by mistake does exist.
