VTI, the Swedish Road and Transport Research Institute, is conducting a study examining the connection between alcohol intake and cycling.

By having a test group drink alcohol and then carry out a number of tests, such as cycling a marked course and doing various cognition tests, the aim is to gain more knowledge in order to be able to prevent accidents.

The bike is equipped with several sensors that measure speed and incline, among other things.

At the same time, the participants are closely monitored by a research assistant.

Do not know if they get alcohol or not

In the test, half of the participants received a drink with vodka while half received a non-alcoholic drink, this to be able to compare both groups.

The participants did not receive an answer until after the test it was clear which group they ended up in.

Nanna Brunk was one of the test participants in Falun and she belonged to the group that received alcohol.

"Fun with research"

- I saw an ad and thought it sounded funny.

It's fun with research too.

It may sound funny "to drink alcohol and cycle", but we hope to be able to reduce the number of accidents that occur, says Nanna before the test has started.

In the video, she talks about the experience of cycling after drinking a couple of drinks.

"I'm a little more talkative perhaps," says Nanna Brunk, one of the study's subjects - who did not know if she was given alcohol or a non-alcoholic beverage.
