Because certain routes on the Großer Feldberg are closed to motorcycles on the second weekend of the month from April to October, motorcyclists want to demonstrate with a parade next Saturday.

According to the Federal Association of Motorcyclists, the protesters set off around noon at the district office of the Hochtaunus district in Bad Homburg.

On the way to a rally at Sandplacken they drive through Hohemarkstraße in Oberursel and over the Hohemark;

the organizers have registered 3000 participants.

Roads will be closed to general traffic along the route, and subways and buses will also be cancelled.

The Feldberg is a popular destination for motorcyclists.

The closures are a traffic attempt.

The district and municipalities of Oberursel, Glashütten, Königstein, Kronberg, Schmitten and Weilrod are hoping for more peace and fewer accidents.

They argue that not only relaxed "pleasure drivers" come to the Feldberg, but also those with highly tuned machines well above the permitted speeds.

Above all, the pulling up of the engines disturbs residents and nature lovers.

In addition, motorcyclists are often involved in accidents.

The plateau remains accessible

Sections of Landstraße 3004 were closed again last weekend: from the Oberursel town sign to Sandplacken, in Schmitten from Arnoldshain to Hegewiese and between Hegewiese and Sandplacken.

On the L 3024, motorcycles were not allowed to drive between sand plagues and the "springboard" at the Feldberg summit.

It is always blocked from Saturday midnight to Sunday midnight.

The plateau remains accessible via other routes.

It is the second traffic test after the first in 2019. At that time, sections of the eastern Feldberg access road were closed to motorcycles for nine days in May and September, and TÜV Hessen measured the noise level.

At the end of 2021, the first district councilor Thorsten Schorr (CDU) presented the evaluation and announced the current “noise breaks”.

Although there was relief in Schmitten, the number of motorcycles on the Feldberg did not decrease significantly because many riders took the access road via the Red Cross.

All vehicles are now recorded at nine locations;

Permanent closures are to be decided on the basis of noise protection calculations.

The Federal Association of Motorcyclists argues that it will be tested "until the results match" and accuses District Administrator Ulrich Krebs (CDU) of refusing a dialogue.

The motorcyclists have made suggestions to solve the problem, such as more checks on both speed and tuned vehicles.

One has no understanding for "family liability" of law-compliant motorcyclists.

For the demonstration on Saturday, the association asked politicians from the district, municipalities, Bundestag and Hessian state parliament to talk about the closures.

Stefan Naas, member of the state parliament, and Nicole Bauer, member of the Bundestag for Lower Bavaria, who is a motorcyclist herself (both FDP) have agreed to attend.

When asked by the FAZ, Schorr said he would not be taking part.
