Kjell Lönnå led several choirs in Sundsvall for just over half a century and became popular through participating in a number of TV programs.

He was born in Smedjebacken in Dalarna in 1936, the son of Baptist pastor Titus Lönnå.

In 1948, the family moved to Sundsvall.

Already in the early 1950s, as a teenager, Kjell Lönnå started a youth choir in Elimkyrkan in Sundsvall.

Over the years, he has been the choir leader for - among others - Sundsvall's chamber choir and the YMCA choir.

The annual events Julton and Caprice in Sundsvall have been well attended and appreciated since the late 1960s.

TV appearances

In the late 1970s, the series of solo concerts from Sundsvall began to be broadcast on SVT, and then Kjell Lönnå became nationally known.

The program series was broadcast for almost 20 years.

Other TV productions Lönnå has participated in are - among others - "Lönnå with guests" and "Playing easy".

He was the host of the "Red Feather" fundraiser for charity which was broadcast live from the Sports Hall in Sundsvall in the autumn of 1989, and he participated as a contestant in both "Prisoners at the fort" on TV4 and in SVT's "That's how it should sound.

In 2017, he and his choir singer made an appearance before Swedish Americans in SVT's "Allt för Sverige", as you can see in the clip next to it.

As recently as last Saturday, he, 85 years old, held this year's edition of the choir concert "Caprice", which returned after a two-year hiatus due to the Pandemic.
