It is noted that the total public debt of Japan at the end of fiscal year 2021 (March 31, 2022) reached 1,241.3 trillion yen (more than $9.5 trillion at the current exchange rate).

Japan's public debt is made up of the total amount of government bonds, short-term government securities and temporary borrowings.

On April 15, Italy's central bank announced that the country's public debt had reached a new all-time high of over €2.736 trillion.
