An Iraqi doctor refused to quit his job despite being retired, and performed 480 complex surgeries in the brain and spinal cord for free within 10 months.

The Iraqi Ministry of Health and the Neurological Sentence Hospital in Baghdad celebrated the consultant doctor Anwar Nuri, and said in a statement, "He continued to perform operations for his patients for free despite his retirement after a scientific career full of giving and humanity so that his hands continue to touch his patients' aches and be a balm for them."

For its part, the Neurological Sentence Hospital in Baghdad said in a statement posted on its Facebook page that Dr. Nouri "performed about 480 complex surgeries in the brain and spinal cord during 10 months after his retirement and decided to work as a contract in the hospital and perform operations for free."

The hospital statement indicated that the consultant doctor "succeeded in deciphering many brain tumors and performing rare and complex operations over the course of his career, and supervised the graduation and examinations of medical board students in the field of neuroscience, and led many scientific discussions to develop the field of neuroscience."

Activists on the communication sites praised Dr. Anwar Nuri and his humanitarian work in serving and treating his patients for free.
