A symbolic 1 franc will be paid to the heirs of President Thomas Sankara.
This is what
the family had claimed
as damages.
For her, only truth and justice mattered.
On the other hand, the court rejected their request for restitution of the property of the father of the Burkinabe revolution.
The family had wanted his revolver, wedding ring and other personal belongings returned.
“
Of course we deplore the chamber's decision not to accede to this request.
But with the family we will definitely advise.
Some prejudices are objective, the family will tell us what to do
”, explains Maître Benewendé Sankara, one of the lawyers of the Sankara family.
On the death certificate of Captain Thomas Sankara, it is mentioned "
natural death
".
The family had requested that another document be drawn up, in accordance with the causes of death.
Motion also dismissed by the court.
“
I do not yet have the reasons for the judgment.
We don't have the arguments.
Is this dictated by the fact that the person being prosecuted has been purely and simply cleared?
asks Master Benewendé Sankara.
I don't know, but we need to have the comments of the decision to know what the motive was.

The court condemns Blaise Compaoré, Hyacinthe Kafando, Gilbert Diendéré and the others found guilty to pay sums ranging from 2.5 to 50 million CFA francs to each of the heirs of the twelve other victims for moral and economic damages.
