At the beginning of 2020, there were around 77,000 rechargeable electric cars in Sweden.

Now in the spring of 2022, they have increased to about 370,000.

The camping industry in Småland is facing a brighter summer.

But the question of how many tourists come with electric cars occupies the thoughts of many campers.

Expensive investment for seasonal operations

In Ankarsrum is Långsjö camping, in the middle between Vimmerby and Västervik.

The owners Karin and Roger Galli keep a close eye on the development, but have not really noticed any major demand for charging stations among their visitors, yet.

- The traditional camping guest does not drive an electric car, says Karin Galli.

Read how eight camping owners in Västervik and Vimmerby have done with their charging infrastructure for guests in the fact box.

Electric cars can so far not pull caravans and motorhome manufacturers have not developed electric motorhomes.

Cottage guests, on the other hand, can be a group that can come with an electric car to a greater extent.

With their seven cabins, Karin and Roger Galli say that they are still handling the demand for charging with existing infrastructure.

For small and small camping contractors, investing in charging posts can be costly and perhaps not profitable, as most people conduct seasonal operations.

18 chargers for electric cars are available at Västervik's resort today.

It covers the need you see today.

18 chargers with solar energy at Västervik's resort

At Västervik's resort, a large car park has a roof with solar cells and 18 sockets for charging electric cars.

With 170 cottages and around 900 pitches, the municipally owned resort in Västervik is a major player in northeastern Småland.

The question of how many guests will come with an electric car also concerns CEO Tommy Abrahamsson.

He expects about 10 percent, especially cabin guests who holiday by electric car.
