The Minister of the Interior has called for "enhanced protection" for places frequented by the Jewish community.

This decision follows the publication last month of an Islamic State (IS) video inciting jihadists to carry out attacks on French territory, particularly against Jews.

Gérald Darmanin on Tuesday asked the prefects, the police and the gendarmerie for "reinforced protection" of the places frequented by the Jewish community of France threatened in mid-April by the Islamic State (IS) group.

On April 17, in an audio statement broadcast on Telegram messaging, the jihadist organization promised to "avenge" its previous leader, who died in February, and called on its supporters to take advantage of the war in Ukraine to resume their attacks in Europe.

Surveillance of places of worship, culture and schools of the Jewish community

"In her message, she particularly targets the Jewish community," wrote the Minister of the Interior in a telegram sent on Tuesday and consulted by AFP.

The Minister therefore asked the prefects and the directors general of the police and the gendarmerie "to redouble their vigilance and to organize reinforced protection of the places of interest of the Jewish community in France", in particular the "places of worship, cultural and educational.
