The cathedral's bells have previously rung when symbolic milestones were reached during the pandemic, including in September 2020 when the country reached 200,000 deaths.
On Monday, the bells rang again.

During the pandemic, we have stopped in the cathedral to mourn those who have died by ringing our biggest bell that we ring at funerals to honor those we have lost, says the cathedral's pastor Randolph Marshall Hollerith.
