There are different types of virus-induced hepatitis that are termed from A to E. Common are mainly symptoms from the liver.

What has now been reported to FHM are nine cases of acute hepatitis, where the cause is not known.

According to Anders Lindblom, who is a state epidemiologist at the Swedish Public Health Agency, it is a rare disease.

-Then the known infections that can cause an inflammation in the liver have been ruled out.

Then there are other causes that should be ruled out, such as poisoning, it can be autoimmune diseases, it can be congenital diseases.

All the known infections that cause hepatitis should be ruled out, says Anders Lindblom to SVT Nyheter.

Nine cases spread across the country

Similar cases have occurred in other countries, including the United Kingdom.

In Sweden, the cases fell ill during November 2021 to April 2022 and they are spread across the country.

- In some cases, there has been a liver transplant and it is very serious but it is also rare.

In the UK, where they have almost 170 cases, I think there are eleven cases of children who needed a liver transplant.

In a few cases it can be a serious illness, but from the UK, which has the most cases, no deaths have been reported so far.

FHM now urges caregivers to report suspicious cases in children under 17, where the cause of hepatitis is not found.

The authority then reports on to the European Infection Control Agency and the cases are investigated to see if there is anything that can explain the cause of the disease.
