China News Service, May 10 (Xinhua) According to comprehensive foreign media news, on the 9th local time, a riot broke out in a prison in northern Ecuador, and at least 43 prisoners have died so far.

  Ecuador's national police chief Salinas said the death toll was likely to rise as many of the wounded had been taken to hospital.

  He also said the police had regained control of the prison and at least 112 prisoners had been recaptured.

  Since 2021, there have been six prison riots in the country, with a cumulative death toll of nearly 400.
