There is tension within Nupes, the New People's Ecological and Social Union.

Finally, the rebellious militant journalist Taha Bouhafs does not appear in Vénissieux, and the Communists want their dissident candidate, the mayor of the city, to wear the colors of the union on this constituency.

Taha Bouhafs, sulphurous character, far from being unanimous within the left, gives up, but for all that, nothing is settled on the 14th district of the Rhône.

The Communists want Michèle Picard, PCF Mayor of Vénissieux, to be the candidate of the New People's Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) for the legislative elections, while this constituency is reserved in the agreement for the Insoumis.

Fabien Roussel, the national secretary of the PCF, asked rebellious France on Monday to review its investiture and announced its support for the dissident candidacy of the communist mayor of Vénissieux, Michèle Picard.

The former presidential candidate criticized the Insoumis for his very controversial career, and in particular his conviction at first instance for public insult because of origin in 2021, after having treated the police unionist Linda Kebbab of "Arab service ".

Michèle Picard considers the only legitimate

But now that Taha Bouafs has stepped down, the communists want their candidate Michèle Picard to be the union candidate.

She considers herself as the only legitimate.

"I have a campaign launched since January, we had a launch meeting with 300 people. The campaign, it is dynamic, it is launched", she assures the microphone of Europe 1.

"Now we're told: we're going to put someone in you, we don't want you. That's not how it works! So there's a rally around my candidacy, and I hope the reason will totally win”, continues the city councilor.

A constituency reserved for the rebels

Except that according to the agreement, this constituency is reserved for the rebels.

This provokes a vitriolic response from Manuel Bompard, chief negotiator of LFI: "It is not Fabien Roussel who will choose the candidates for La France insoumise", he blurts out.

"If the communists don't support it, that means they don't support the package deal."

In reality, the Insoumis had no other choice but to hold out against the Communists at Vénissieux.

To let go would be to open the door to disputes to locally renegotiate all contentious cases, with the risk of seeing the Nupes break up.
