The following is the full text of President Yoon's inaugural address.

Respected and beloved Koreans, 7.5 million Koreans overseas, and freedom-loving citizens of the world, I will rebuild this country into a country where the people are the true owners based on liberal democracy and a market economy system, and fulfill responsibilities and roles in the international community. I stand here today with the vocation of the times to make it a country that does everything.

Thank you to all the people who joined us in this historic event.

Moon Jae-in, former President Park Geun-hye, Singapore President Halima Jacob, Central African Republic President Postin Archange Tuadera, Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan, former Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri, Vice President of the United States Douglas Mhoff Harris, Vice President of the United States, George Fury, Senate of Canada I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to the Chairman, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, as well as congratulatory envoys from around the world and distinguished guests from home and abroad.

I would like to take this opportunity to pay my respects to the people who have endured great pain in overcoming the corona pandemic over the past two years.

And thank you to the medical staff for their dedication.

Fellow Koreans and citizens of the world, the world is now facing a pandemic crisis, changes in the trade order and reorganization of supply chains, climate change, food and energy crises, and retreat from peaceful resolution of conflicts, whether any one country, independently or several We are facing challenges that are difficult to solve with the participation of only the country.

A combination of various crises is casting a dark shadow on human society.

In addition, in many countries, including Korea, the solidarity of the community is shaking and disintegrating due to domestically ultra-low growth, large-scale unemployment, deepening polarization and various social conflicts.

Meanwhile, the politics that must solve these problems are not functioning properly due to the so-called crisis of democracy.

Anti-intellectualism is pointed out as the biggest cause.

Science and truth must be prerequisites for people of different views to reconcile and compromise with each other.

That is the rationalism and intellectualism that support democracy.

The truth is distorted by excessive collective conflicts between and within countries, and anti-intellectualism, in which each chooses only the facts they want to see and hear, or suppress the opinions of others with the power of the majority, puts democracy at risk and undermines faith in democracy. .

This situation makes it more difficult to solve the problems we face.

But we can.

Looking back on history, our people have faced many crises, but each time the people have worked together, they have overcome them wisely and courageously.

I accept with gratitude that I have been given the responsibility to overcome this crisis at this moment, and I am confident that I will be able to walk through it proudly with our great people.

We also believe that we can solve domestic and international crises and difficulties by working together with global citizens.

Fellow Koreans and citizens of the world, I think it is very important for us to share universal values in order to tackle this challenge.

That is 'freedom'.

We must recognize the value of freedom properly and accurately.

We need to rediscover the value of freedom.

Looking back on human history, where free political rights and free markets were breathing, prosperity and abundance always blossomed.

Prosperity, abundance and economic growth are the extension of freedom.

Freedom is a universal value.

All members of our society must become free citizens.

If the liberty of any individual is left to be violated, the liberty of all members of our community is also threatened.

Freedom is never winner-take-all.

To become a free citizen, a certain level of economic foundation and fair access to education and culture must be guaranteed.

Without this, you cannot be a free citizen.

All free citizens must help in solidarity when the freedom of any person is violated or the conditions necessary to become a free citizen are not met.

And if individual freedom is violated and the dignity of life as a free citizen is not maintained due to hunger, poverty, and illegal acts by public and military forces, not only in individual countries but also internationally, all citizens of the world must unite and help as free citizens.

In order for all to be free citizens, they must follow fair rules and have a spirit of solidarity and philanthropy.

Fellow Koreans, I will turn to domestic issues and tell you about the direction I consider important.

In our country, excessive polarization and social conflicts not only threaten freedom and democracy, but also hold back social development.

I think this problem is difficult to solve without making a leap forward and rapid growth.

In the process of rapid growth, many people can find new opportunities, and by improving social mobility, the source of polarization and conflict can be eliminated.

A leap forward and rapid growth can only be achieved through science, technology and innovation.

Science, technology and innovation will uphold our liberal democracy, expand our freedoms and make our lives of dignity sustainable.

Science, technology, and innovation are difficult to achieve with our own efforts alone.

We must cooperate and solidify with many countries that have achieved scientific and technological progress and innovation by respecting freedom and creativity.

Fellow Koreans and citizens of the world, liberal democracy creates peace, and peace preserves freedom.

And peace is guaranteed by solidarity with the international community that respects the values of freedom and human rights.

We must seek a sustainable peace that blossoms freedom and prosperity, not a fragile peace that temporarily avoids war.

No part of the world is free from threats to freedom and peace.

The same is true of peace on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia now.

I will open the door to dialogue for a peaceful resolution of North Korea's nuclear development, which threatens peace not only on the Korean Peninsula but also in Asia and the world.

And if North Korea stops developing nuclear weapons and converts to practical denuclearization, we will work with the international community to prepare a bold plan to dramatically improve the North Korean economy and the quality of life of North Koreans.

North Korea's denuclearization will not only bring sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula, but will also greatly contribute to peace and prosperity in Asia and around the world.

Dear and respected citizens, now we are in the world's 10th largest economy group.

Therefore, we must take a stance as a global leader in actively supporting and defending universal international norms based on the values of freedom and human rights.

We must play a more leading role in protecting and expanding the freedoms and human rights of all citizens of the world as well as our country.

It is clear that the international community is also expecting an even greater role from Korea.

At present, our country cannot separate domestic and international affairs.

When we take the lead in the role that the international community expects of us, we will be able to find the right direction for domestic problems as well.

Based on the values of freedom, human rights, fairness and solidarity, I will surely build a country where the people are the true masters and a country that is respected and responsibilities in the international community together with the great people.

thank you.
