Earphones and cameras in shirt buttons are part of the cheating methods available today.

Since 1 March 2020, it is illegal to cheat on a driving license.

But the law has still not been able to stop the cheaters.

How long can you be suspended?

Even people who have been convicted of cheating can come back and write the test again as the law does not provide any support to turn off those who cheat.

Therefore, the government believes that it is more dissuasive to be suspended from taking a test than to be convicted of the crime that often ends with a fine as a sanction.

The idea is that you should be able to be suspended from taking a test for up to two years.

- This will be felt immediately, says Katarina Törnberg.

Two convicts so far in Sörmland

Since 2020, the Swedish Transport Administration has discovered over 300 cases where people cheated with technical equipment.

In Sörmland, four cases have led to a trial where two people have been convicted of cheating.

But despite the fact that the Swedish Transport Administration's policy is to always report detected fraud to the police, this is not always done.

In 2020, the authority reported 119 cases to the police, even though they had discovered over 200 cases of cheating.

- I can not answer why it looks like that but it is too big a gap.

We have to look at our organization, but our basis is to always report all forms of cheating to the police, says Tomas Tronning, head of safety at the Swedish Transport Administration.

May start next year

It is still unclear which authority will be responsible for the suspensions.

But the idea is that the bill will come into force from 1 January 2023.

In the video above, Katarina Törnberg at the Swedish Transport Administration shows how it goes when the examiners reveal suspected cheating.
