CNN reported that the Chargé d'Affairs of the US Embassy in Ukraine, Christina Kevin, returned with a group of American diplomats to the embassy headquarters in Kyiv on Sunday, for the first time since the start of the Russian war on Ukraine more than two months ago.

The US embassy in Kyiv was closed before the outbreak of the war on February 24.

For his part, Axios website quoted a senior US State Department official as saying that the administration of President Joe Biden is working to accelerate plans to reopen the US embassy in Kyiv.

The website quoted a senior US State Department official as saying that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told his team and his Ukrainian counterpart that reopening the US mission was "evidence of Ukraine's success and Moscow's failure" in its war.

Extensive visits

On Sunday, a number of Western officials arrived in Ukraine, including US First Lady Jill Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, German Parliament Speaker Purple Bass and Norwegian Foreign Minister Anneken Hoetfeld.

In the same context, US First Lady Jill Biden flew to Ukraine on Sunday for a surprise visit, according to her spokesman, and met her Ukrainian counterpart Olena Zelenska at a school near the Slovakian border.

"I wanted to come on Mother's Day," Jill Biden told reporters. "I think it's important to show the Ukrainian people that this war has to stop, that it's brutal, and that the people of the United States stand with the Ukrainian people."

For his part, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said during a visit to Kyiv on Sunday that Russian President "Vladimir Putin is responsible for these brutal war crimes."

"It is clear that Vladimir Putin is responsible for these brutal war crimes, and he must be held accountable," Trudeau said during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trudeau announced the provision of new weapons and equipment to Ukraine, and said at a news conference after talks with Zelensky that Canada would impose new sanctions on Russian individuals and entities linked to the war.

"Today, I announced the provision of more military assistance, drones, satellite images, small arms, ammunition and other forms of support, including funding for demining operations," he added.

"We are imposing new sanctions on 40 Russians, five entities, wealthy Russians and close associates of the regime in the defense sector, all of whom are complicit in Putin's war," he added.

Urgent action required

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Blankovic was also a guest of the Ukrainian president, and they held a press conference in which Zelensky said that 11 million people had fled their homes because of the war, and that Ukraine should rebuild its economy.

The Ukrainian president praised Croatia's support for his country in its bid to join the European Union, adding that Kyiv has proven that it can unite Europe.

Norwegian Parliament Speaker Masoud Qarakhani also visited Kyiv and met with his Ukrainian counterpart Ruslan Stevanchuk.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Sunday called on world leaders to act quickly to support Ukraine.

"Ukraine needs weapons that will allow it not only to keep its territory, but also to regain control over it," Johnson said, addressing the leaders of the seven countries and Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelensky, in comments published on the Cabinet website.

He also stressed that "the world needs to do more and work faster to support Ukraine."

"The West must not allow the war in Ukraine to turn into a stalemate that only exacerbates the suffering," he added.

Only thirty minutes

On the other hand, Dmitriy Rogozin, Director of the Russian Space Agency "Ros Cosmos", said that Moscow needs only 30 minutes to destroy the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the event of a nuclear war between the two sides.

Rogozin pointed out that they must prevent this from happening, because the consequences of mutual nuclear strikes will negatively affect the situation of the planet, which calls for a victory over what he called the most powerful enemy economically and militarily, using traditional fighting methods, as he put it.

Rogozin warned that Ukraine's existence as a state independent of Russia would inevitably turn it into a state hostile to Moscow, and a springboard for Western aggression against the Russian people.

He stressed that the Russian military operation in Ukraine exceeds its moral and geographical borders, considering it a war for truth and Russia's right to exist as a united and independent state, as he put it.
