2022 UK local council election counting ends, Conservatives 'hit' in three regions

On the 8th local time, all vote counting in the 2022 British local council elections ended. In England, Scotland and Wales, the Conservative Party led by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson ranked first in the number of seats lost and suffered "heavy losses" .

Statistics show that out of 200 local councils, the Conservative Party lost 12 parliamentary control and 483 seats; while the opposition Labour Party gained 4 parliamentary control and 107 seats, winning the most seats overall; the Liberal Democrats' new won 5 parliaments and 222 seats.

The Scottish National Party is the largest party in Scottish local councils.

In addition, in Northern Ireland, Sinn Fein won 27 of the 90 seats, making it the largest party in the Northern Ireland Parliament.

The analysis believes that Prime Minister Johnson's violation of epidemic prevention regulations during the epidemic blockade, holding parties in the Prime Minister's Office and the sharp rise in living costs are the key factors leading to this election result.

The Conservatives will lose their majority in the House of Commons if the election result is replicated in the next UK general election, which will be held no later than 2 May 2024.

According to a report by Sky News on the 7th, Johnson is expected to reshuffle his cabinet before this summer's parliamentary recess, which will begin on July 21.
