Two Palestinians killed, Israeli policeman stabbed

The Israeli army said that its soldiers shot dead a Palestinian near the separation wall with the occupied West Bank, while another was killed after he infiltrated a Jewish settlement in the West Bank with a knife on Sunday, fueling fears of slipping back into a broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The two incidents, along with the stabbing of a policeman in Jerusalem, came hours after Israeli forces arrested two Palestinians suspected of infiltrating Israel and killing three ultra-Orthodox Jews in Elad last Thursday.

The Israeli army said the shooting of a Palestinian on Sunday came after "soldiers spotted a suspect trying to illegally cross the security fence" in the West Bank city of Tulkarm.

An army spokesman added that "the soldiers worked to stop the suspect using live ammunition, in accordance with the procedures in place during operations."

The Palestinian Health Ministry said the man had been killed.

Hours later, the army said that a civilian had shot a knife-wielding Palestinian who had infiltrated the West Bank settlement of Tekoa.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said a 17-year-old Palestinian boy was killed in the settlement east of Bethlehem.
