That we have not yet seen the real effects of the war is due to delays in the production stage.

Only now will it start to show up in stores, says Ulf Mazur on the independent site Matpriskollen.

- I do not think it looks good.

It will increase significantly this year, he says.

Eggs and meat are expected to increase

Prices have already risen sharply for several goods, but this is mainly due to higher delivery and fuel prices in the autumn.

Chicken and poultry products are the first goods that will now increase significantly due to the war, says Ulf Mazur.

The reason is that the farmers have to pay significantly more for the animals' feed, and when the first birds are now to be sold, the farmers need to make up for the cost increase.

It has already started in several places.

According to Matpriskollen, a package of chicken thigh fillet at Coop cost SEK 75 in March.

Now the product is up to SEK 93.

At Hemköp, the price has increased from just under SEK 70 to SEK 79.95.

- Chicken is the first step, but then comes animal husbandry and dairy products.

Everything that depends on grain will go up.

Other goods that are expected to increase in price in the future are eggs and meat.

According to Matpriskollen, the price of certain eggs increased by 16 percent in April and the development is expected to continue.

- I have followed this since the 80s and what we see now is historical, of course, says Ulf Mazur.

Axfood: Continues to point upwards

The food chains do not make forecasts about price increases, but say that there are several aspects that have caused prices to increase recently.

- We have had two years of pandemic and now the Ukraine war.

All effects together have increased the entire chain of costs, from manure to transport.

Unfortunately, we see that it continues to point upwards, says Magnus Törnblom, press manager at Axfood, which runs Hemköp and Willys.

Ica also writes in an email to SVT that they see an increase in food prices in the future.

Leeks significantly cheaper

However, not everything has become more expensive.

The price of leeks, for example, has fallen by as much as 45 percent in the past year according to Statistics Sweden.

Other items that are cheaper than usual are avocados, apples, cauliflower and yellow onions.

Among the goods that have fallen slightly in price over the past month are frozen fish and meat, smoked salmon, grapes and cucumbers.

- A category that changes a lot is fruit and vegetables.

Soon it will be season for Swedish vegetables and then the price picture will probably change.

A good tip is to shop in season, says Therese Knapp, press communicator at Coop.
