A homeless man was sentenced to two and a half years in prison by the Nîmes Criminal Court for having violently assaulted a man who was trying to recover his suitcase which he had just stolen from him.

The facts occurred on Tuesday on board a train from Avignon.

Already sentenced in February

The victim was hit by his attacker in the hip and cheek.

The defendant from Algeria was arrested when he got off the train in the Gard prefecture.

He had already been convicted of theft in February with a ten-year inadmissibility.

In addition to prison, he was sentenced to the same penalty of banishment from French territory.
